Honoring my Mom

Mom and me

Proverbs 31:25-31

She is clothed with strength and dignity;
she can laugh at the days to come.

She speaks with wisdom,
and faithful instruction is on her tongue.

She watches over the affairs of her household
and does not eat the bread of idleness.

Her children arise and call her blessed;
her husband also, and he praises her:

“Many women do noble things,
but you surpass them all.”

Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting;
but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.

Honor her for all that her hands have done,
and let her works bring her praise at the city gate.

puzzle piece

1 Corinthians 12:18
But in fact God has placed the parts in the body, every one of them, just as he wanted them to be.

Fun, frustration and eventually accomplishment are all feelings I have experienced in the process of completing a jigsaw puzzle. It is fun and exciting to open up a box of puzzle pieces with the anticipation of the end result looking like the picture on the box lid.

Of course, people who enjoy puzzles usually have a method to assembling all those pieces. I begin with finding all the border pieces, so I can assemble the framework of the puzzle. It’s like laying the foundation of a building before any walls are erected. Continue reading

Love Forgives

ScaleMatthew 7:1-2
Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.

Don’t judge me!

Have you ever said those words out loud or loudly thought them within the confines of your mind? Someone may have given you the look of judgment. You know the look that says who do you think you are or what do you think you are doing? Someone may have extended the silence of judgement. You know the quiet which says, I do not even have words for what I think about you or more likely, what you just did…  Continue reading

that’s my dad

20151002_062104-1-1~2Psalm 103:13-14
As a father has compassion on his children, so the LORD has compassion on those who fear him; for he knows how we are formed, he remembers that we are dust.

Recently I had the opportunity to see the movie War Room: Prayer is a Powerful Weapon. There is a scene in the movie when the daughter is on her dad’s shoulders and she is yelling in such adoration, “That’s my dad, that’s my dad…” The smile on her face and the sparkle in her eye demonstrates to all who witnessed her jubilant outcry that she loves her dad. The scene reminded me of times when my dad would carry me on his shoulders and I would feel as if I were on top of the world. My husband said that when I talk about my dad I have that same smile on my face and that same sparkle in my eyes as the little girl in the movie. Continue reading

Love Is Your Key

Remember to be REAL…

Prayer: assignments…

Then the Lord put forth His hand and touched my mouth. And the Lord said to me, Behold, I have put My words in your mouth. See, I have this day appointed you to the oversight of the nations and the of the kingdoms to root out and pull down to destroy and to overthrow, to build and to plant.

Did you know that prayer is not just a means for you to get your wants and needs met? Prayer is the avenue for you to communicate with God about areas of your life or the lives of your loved ones. But prayer is much more than just about you. Prayer is God’s way of working with you to accomplish His plan in the earth. God has a plan and He wants you to be a part of that plan. He has given you authority in the earth. Are you ready to use that authority on behalf of His Kingdom? Continue reading

The Truth

Truth=WordJohn 8:32
Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.

It is the TRUTH that you KNOW that will set you free…

The word ‘know’ in this verse of Scripture means to have intimate knowledge of or to be personally acquainted with… in other words the truth in which you have personal experience, is the truth that will set you free.

God’s Word (the Bible) is truth. As Jesus was praying for His disciples, He said, “Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth.”  We know that Jesus was praying to the Father and He calls God’s Word (logos) truth. When Jesus refers to truth here, He is referring to the divine truth that is revealed to you. It is information or insight you did not previously know or it was seemingly hidden… Continue reading

Consider Jesus

consider jesusHebrews 3:1
Therefore, holy brothers and sisters, who share in the heavenly calling, fix your thoughts on Jesus, whom we acknowledge as our apostle and high priest.

What does it mean to fix or consider?

Consider is to think about carefully; to think about especially with regard to taking some action; to take into account; to regard or treat in an attentive or kindly way; to gaze on steadily or reflectively…

What is weighing on your mind? Who are you thinking about? Where is your attention directed?

I can imagine that just the consideration of those questions has your mind going in many different directions. You could be thinking about the tasks that you have on your to do list, whether a written list or the mental check list that tends to pop up when you are attempting to focus elsewhere.  Your health or the health of a loved one may be weighing heavy on your mind.  Your attention may even be divided right now as you are reading  skimming this post.

Higher thoughts

Romans 12:2 (NLT)
Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.

You take a thought by saying…

In Matthew 6:31 the Bible says take no thought saying, “What shall we eat or what shall we drink?” This says to me that you take a thought when you verbalize that thought. Many thoughts can run through my mind, but I do not have to take every thought as my own.

So what do you do when the thoughts you are having are not good thoughts? You replace them! Now you cannot replace a thought with a thought. You have to replace a thought by saying something to combat that thought.  The Bible says it this way in 2 Corinthians 10:5, “…and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.” In other words we replace or combat a negative thought by speaking the truth.
