Are you pliable…
Psalm 37:4
Delight yourself in the LORD and he will give you the desires of your heart.
Do you have some desires in your heart? Are you waiting for something significant to happen in your life? Some desire a change to take place in themselves or a loved one. Some desire to get married or have children. Still others desire a closer walk with the Father. The Merriam-Webster online dictionary gives us this definition for the word desire – to long or to hope for. It’s interesting that the Bible says that hope deferred makes the heart sick (Proverbs 13:12). If you desire (hope/long) for something to come to pass and it hasn’t, you may be experiencing feelings of sadness. The good news is that the Bible also says that a longing fulfilled is a tree of life.
The Bible gives this instruction – delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart. This instruction is good so that your longing can be fulfilled. Do you know what it means to delight yourself in the Lord? Well, in the Strong’s Concordance the Hebrew word for delight is anag which means soft or pliable. The Hebrew word for desires is mishalah which means a request or petition. This leads me to believe that if you are soft and pliable in the Lord, in the Master’s hands, then He will give you the requests or petitions of your heart. Being pliable means remaining teachable and remaining teachable means doing things God’s way.
When we do things God’s way, we set ourselves up for success. We set ourselves up to see the desires of our hearts manifested. We set ourselves in a place where our longings are fulfilled. Do you want to live a joy-filled life or a heart-sick life? I hope your choice is joy-filled. I want to encourage you today to be soft and pliable in the Lord, so that He can give you the desires of your heart.
