Contend for the faith

contend for faithPsalm 35:1
Contend, LORD, with those who contend with me; fight against those who fight against me.

I remember a number of years ago someone sharing Psalm 35:1 with me.  I was going through a challenging time and this individual encouraged me that God would fight on my behalf.  This person reminded me that everything I say and do is a seed.  For that reason I want to ensure that I continually sow good seed. Romans 12:14 says, “Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse.”  In other words, continue to walk in love and forgive.

Contend – to claim that something is true; compete against someone.

Just the other day I was thinking about how grateful I am that God does contend on our behalf.  He covers us and protects us.  His promise is that He will never leave us or forsake us.  No matter how challenging life can become, we have a Father who loves us and is always there for us.  He is with us on the mountain top and He walks with us through every valley.  He is consistent.  The Bible says that He is the same yesterday, today and forever…

Contending on behalf of God…

Have you ever asked God what you could do for Him?  That question probably sounds foreign because most times when people talk to God, they ask Him to do something for them. So how does contending on behalf of God look.  I came upon verse 3 in the book of Jude.  “Dear friends, although I was very eager to write to you about the salvation we share, I felt compelled to write and urge you to contend for the faith that was once for all entrusted to God’s holy people.  We do not have to compete against another on God’s behalf, but we do need to stand up and declare that He is love and that His Word is truth.  We do need to let others know that Jesus is the way, the truth and the life.

Will you contend for the faith on God’s behalf?

Remember to be REAL…
