Ears to hear…

perceiveMark 4:23-24
If anyone has ears to hear, let them hear.” “Consider carefully what you hear,” he continued. “With the measure you use, it will be measured to you—and even more.

Do you have ears to hear?  One of the definitions of the word ‘hear’ is to understand what someone is saying to you.  In the Gospels we see Jesus repeating this statement, “If anyone has ears to hear, let him hear…” and in Revelation Jesus repeats a similar statement, “Whoever has ears, let them hear what the Spirit says to the churches.”

It sounds to me like we have a choice on whether or not we fully engage in hearing.  Do you have ears to hear?  I believe that each one of us desires to hear…  However, we have to make the choice…

The Bible says that you can be ever hearing but never understanding and seeing but never perceiving.  Why?  Because you have allowed your heart to become dull or calloused.  Dull is not being able to understand or react to what is happening…

How does a person become dull to the things of God?

A person becomes dull when she neglects her relationship with God. A relationship with God implies that you spend time with Him.  You spend time in His Word… You spend time in prayer… You spend time with His people…

When you spend time in relationship with God, then He becomes your focus.  Focus helps you to understand the things you are hearing and perceive the things you are seeing.  Focus is to concentrate on something and pay particular attention to it.  When you are focused on the things of God, then you can quickly adapt to the instructions that He is gives you.

Do you want to hear and understand; see and perceive?  All it takes is repentance… Turn from those things that are taking your attention away from God and turn to Him.  It is that simple!

Remember to be REAL…
