What is shame? Shame is a negative emotion that combines feelings of dishonor, unworthiness and embarrassment; the capacity or tendency to feel unworthy; a state of disgrace or dishonor; a cause for regret or disappointment. Shame paralyses individuals and hinders them from moving forward. Have you ever felt ashamed about something that happened in your life? It could have been something that you did or something that was done to you. In either case, shame gets you to turn your focus on yourself.
Our focus should be on Him. Wisdom, strength, peace and direction comes from God…our Father…our Source. Shame is a tool that is used to bring distraction. Instead of our focus being directed outward toward a loving God that can bring healing, restoration and provide forgiveness; our focus is turned inward where the unworthiness and embarrassment over time morph into condemnation. I have witnessed the affects of shame; leading a person from sadness into depression.
I want to encourage you that shame is not from God. Remember God so loved the world that He gave… Jesus came that we might have life and truly live a full life… The Bible encourages us that ANYONE who trusts in Him will never be put to shame. For there is no difference between Jew or Gentile – the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all that call upon Him. In Christ there is freedom from condemnation… there is freedom from shame. Today is your day to let it go…call upon Him and live free in Christ!
