Got Fruit: Faithfulness

summer series got fruitPsalm 92:1-2
It is good to praise the Lord and make music to your name, O Most High, proclaiming your love in the morning and your faithfulness at night.

What does it mean to be faithful or to exhibit faithfulness? Is faithfulness evident in your life? Do you recognize faithfulness in others? Faithfulness can be a characteristic that one expects others to possess but may not necessarily be a characteristic that he develops himself. When I think of faithfulness, I think of loyalty and being true to your word.

As I looked up the word faithfulness in the dictionary, it was interesting to see that the first definition listed is marked as obsolete. The definition is full of faith…  A couple of other definitions listed are: steadfast in affection or allegiance and firm in adherence to promises or in observation of duty. The faithful earn a place of trust…

A faithful person is deserving of trust because that person keeps promises and does what he or she is supposed to do. A faithful person is also empowered by God. In Proverbs 28:20 it says that the faithful person will abound with blessing. To be blessed or to walk in the blessing is to be empowered to succeed.

This week in the summer series we are discussing the attribute of love that is seen in faith or faithfulness. The writer declares in Psalms that he will declare or proclaim God’s faithfulness at night which sounds to me like before he closes his eyes to sleep he takes the time to reflect upon God’s patience and kindness. After remembering all the love God has shown to him throughout the day, he cannot help but proclaim God’s faithfulness.

You may be thinking ‘well of course God is faithful, but what does that have to do with me and the fruit of the Spirit’. I am glad you asked. God’s faithfulness has to do with you because you were created in His image and in His likeness which means that if He is faithful then you should be faithful and full of faith as well. Remember the fruit of the Spirit is love and one of the attributes of love is faith or faithfulness, so you do have the capacity to live a life of faithfulness. The Bible says in Habakkuk that a person shall live by his faith and in his faithfulness.

You were made and equipped to live by faith and in faithfulness. It’s a place of supernatural protection where you have access. All you have to do is yield to the Spirit of God within.  The question is are you willing to yield?

I’m praying for you…
