I have a friend who has influenced so many people during her lifetime. Whenever her name is mentioned people go on and on about how great she is and how she has impacted their lives. She is very wise because she is a woman of the Word. There are other women I know that are in the Word who have not had the same impact on others. What’s the difference you ask? The difference is kindness.
Kindness is defined as the quality of being warmhearted and considerate and humane and sympathetic. My friend is kind…she is warmhearted…and she is considerate. She just makes people feel good even when she has to correct them. My friend wholeheartedly comes alongside a person in a time of need. When I read the Proverbs 31 Woman, especially verse 26, I think of her. The Amplified translation says it this way. She opens her mouth in skillful and godly Wisdom, and on her tongue is the law of kindness [giving counsel and instruction].
The kindness that you extend to others reaches further than you can imagine. Kindness encourages others, it builds friendships, it strengthens relationships and it opens doors of opportunity. There are many examples in the Word from David wanting to show kindness to a descendent of Jonathan (2 Samuel 9:1-4), Ruth showing kindness to Naomi (Ruth 1:7-9), and God wooing His people (Jeremiah 31:3). If you give kindness, you will receive kindness.
There are many ways that you can show kindness to those around you. Just think – when you are kind to someone, you are actively walking in love. Love is kind!
