Reflections of the heart

Proverbs 27:19
As a face is reflected in water, so the heart reflects the real person.

Will the REAL YOU, please stand up.

It’s (Truth that is) all about the heart.  Your heart, my heart pretty much lets people know all they need to know about us.  Sure we can walk around with a mask on pretending to be someone else, but in time the heart always reflects the real person.  So why does a person pretend?  I believe there can be a number of reasons…to fit in, to receive approval, to gain influence, even to hide.  Many times people reflect on what they have done versus who they are.  People sometimes dwell on past situations or circumstances and allow those instances to define who they are.  Unfortunate but true…have you ever been there?

There was a television series in the late 90’s – The Pretender.  The character Jarod, a genius and former child prodigy, had the ability to become anyone he wanted to be…flawlessly impersonating anyone.  Can you imagine?  Now on the surface this could seem like an exciting lifestyle…pretending to be someone else might land you in some very interesting situations.  But let’s face it, no matter how interesting or glamorous or fun we think it is to be someone else, in reality it is just plain exhausting.  Why?  Because you and I were not created to pretend to be someone else…you were created (shaped, formed and fashioned) to be you and I was created to simply be me.  You are an original NOT a copy!

Let me also mention that The Pretender character, Jarod, was abducted as a child.  He escapes his captors and begins traveling around the country searching for clues of his TRUE identity.  There is no need to pretend to be someone else or to try and live someone else’s life.  You have purpose just because of who you are.  If you need answers, look to Him who created you.  Keep God’s Word in your heart (Prov. 4:21) and then guard your heart above all else (Prov. 4:23).  The heart reflects the real person.  Take a good look.  What is your heart reflecting?

Remember to be REAL…
