I woke up this morning to the pitter-patter of rain drops on my window. The atmosphere was quiet and there was a beautiful stillness in the air. I wondered what Jesus must have been thinking about, so very long ago, when He woke up on what we now call Palm Sunday… Was there a stillness in the air as He prepared himself for the days ahead?
Today beings the passion which is considered the final period in the life of Jesus. The passion begins with Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem and includes His last supper, His agony in the garden and His arrest. The passion is commemorated in Holy Week, beginning today with Palm Sunday and ending on Resurrection (Easter) Sunday.
When you think of the word passion what comes to your mind? When I hear the word passion, I often think of the object of someone’s intense interest or enthusiasm; a person’s passion in life. You know, the thing (goals, dreams) that a person pursues with such zeal. I usually do not think of suffering. However, Christ’s passion was His love for people, for us. Because He loves us so, He was willing to go through great suffering. I am glad His story does not end in suffering, it ends in triumph!
What happens when your passion, your purpose in life includes struggle? Do you give up, cave in, throw your hands up and quit?
Christ is our example. His struggles did not begin His final week, as He walked towards the Cross. Christ experienced opposition, high points and low points throughout His life, just like you, just like me. However, Christ endured through the struggles He experienced because of His great love for us. He knew He had a purpose and a destiny, so He continued moving forward.
Be encouraged to persevere through the struggles you may face, knowing that triumph is just ahead…
